Performing Arts & Music
The Performing Arts department at Northlands prides itself on being a safe space for learners to express themselves and their creativity in a way that is not possible in the classroom. We work on building their confidence, communication skills, listening skills and all skills associated with the performing arts, such as movement, singing and acting.
The Performing Arts department helps to develop the creative passions of the learners and it is all about self-expression. The arts enable children to understand emotions through music and performance and teaches empathy in a fun, creative way. Without emotions we wouldn't have the arts.
Learners get a chance to perform both inside the classroom and on our main stage in special assemblies, school musicals and for their peers. This opportunity allows them a chance to build their skills and confidence and learn how to perform for a live audience. We are blessed with a school hall that has been geared towards these performances with sound and lighting. The performing arts overall, allows the children to come to life in a unique way, teaching them to embrace who they are and to find confidence in their individuality. Once a year we hold a MAD (Music, Art & Drama) Day which showcases artists, both performing and visual and culminates in an explosion of colour as we end off our immersion days with a colour run. A definite highlight on the school calendar!
We offer private music lessons based on campus for your convenience and have a thriving Marimba group, as well as a Junior band. Our Senior Primary Choir performs at Festivals and we host our own annual Choir Festival which attracts the talents of 10 other like-minded schools. Our Junior Primary Choir is very much in demand to perform at public events as well as our own school functions. You will discover that music is very much a part of everyday life at Northlands.
